How many of you love watching Reality TV? I know we watch it in our home. In fact, just the other night, Daniel and I were watching Jon and Kate + 8. One reason I love to watch that show is that it gives me more confidence on raising the 3 boys that I have - 3 kids to raise is better than 8!! :) We could not help but to laugh at all of the funny things that happened with those kids. The things they said, what they did, how they interacted with each other, it was all so funny. I looked at Daniel and asked "Could you imagine our family being on TV and everything being recorded all the time?" Like for example......Last week, Caleb and Joshua were playing on the zipline outside. It was Joshua's turn to go, so while he was riding the zipline, I went and got the stroller for Jackson to sit in. I put Jackson in the stroller and immediately went back to the zipline to help Caleb - he cant quite reach on his own yet!! When I got back and was helping Caleb up, Joshua said that Caleb had gone pee-pee in the yard by the tree. Now this tree is in our front yard right by the road. So he was flashing the whole world......well not really because none of our neighbors were outside right then. BUT, if they had been, they would have seen my 3 year old going to the bathroom. So, I had a talk with Caleb and told him if you need to go to the bathroom, walk inside and use the potty!!!!
The very next day, Caleb and Joshua were on the playground in our backyard playing with our neighbors next door - 2 girls and 1 boy. They were all playing in the sandbox - and I am keeping an eye on them from my kitchen window. As I come and check on them, I see Caleb standing on the playground, pants around his ankles, going potty. Immediately I yelled his name and told him to get inside. We discussed all the many reasons why not to peepee outside......there were other kids watching him, he was pottying on the playground where everyone plays, and the most important reason is because one day earlier I had told him not to!!!
Shows like Jon and Kate + 8 keep us watching because we see real life being displayed on TV - the good and the bad. But, if the TV cameras were to come into our home, I would be embarassed to have the whole world see my son pee pee in the yard. In this world, we try and paint a great picture about life - we are all smiles, everything is perfect.....when most of the time it is not. One of the great things about Jesus is that He sees every part of us - the good and the bad, and still He loves us. I am thankful that His love is not based on my actions, but His love is just that....love. No strings, no checklist, given freely for each of us. "But God demonstrates His own love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8

I LOVE this post, Jessica! SOOO true that we sometimes "compartmentalize" in our life. Things that aren't good, we pretend they are...and that includes what is going on in our heart!!! The great thing, like you said, about God is that there is no pretending with Him and He isn't surprised by who we really are. He accepts us no matter what!
And the fact that He loves me no matter what makes me truly thankful!! I find great comfort in knowing that He made me and He loves me!! And when I mess up (which happens often), that doesnt negate His love!!
I agree with both of you. God has continually shown me how unconditional and unfailing His love is. I am constantly humbled when I think about His incredible and amazing love for me. Even though I constantly do things that break His heart, He will still continue to love me. What a great God we serve.
