Having 3 boys, there is always something going on - light saber fights, tball games, building lego ships, nerf gun wars, wrestling matches, etc. One thing they do that tends to aggravate each other is copying what the other one is saying. Caleb, who just turned 4, we have to explain what things mean to him a lot. The other afternoon we were riding in the van heading to see the movie Monsters VS Aliens, and anything Joshua said, Caleb would repeat. Joshua said "I am so excited that we are going to see Monsters VS Aliens!" and then Caleb would say "I am so excited that we are going to see Monsters VS Aliens!". And this would go on and on and on and on!! Eventually Joshua said "Caleb, why are you copying me?" Then in the most honest statement, Caleb said "I'm not copying you Joshua. I just want to say exactly what you say." To which Joshua responded....."That's copying!" It was quite funny to hear them banter back and forth and for Caleb to figure out what the word copy means. He just wanted to do exactly what his brother did and say exactly what his brother said.
That got me thinking about our relationship with Christ. God the Father wants us to become more and more like His Son Jesus. Our thoughts, our actions, our words.....everything. Jesus doesnt get annoyed when we say what He said, or when we act as He would have acted, it brings Him honor. When we "copy Him", that is the evidence of a changed life. A life that He has control over. One where we have laid down our choices, our will, our desires and said "God, my life is Yours to do with whatever you choose!" When people look at my life, I want to be that copycat of My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. What about when people look at your life? Who do they see you copying?
