Can You Hear Me??

Last week, the flip phone that I have had for 3 years broke into two pieces. It jut got worn out from use, from the boys playing with it, etc. I went online and got another free phone for signing up for a two year contract again. I dont need all the bells and whistles of a new phone - if I can call someone and text people occasionally, then I am good to go.

For two days I was without a cell phone. That was quite strange to say the least. No communication with anyone except from our home phone. Finally, the box with my new phone arrived on my doorstep. I plugged it in so the battery could charge. Put in the sim card.....to no avail, nothing transferred over to my new phone. I have to start all over with my address book. :-( But, that is fine.....I have a phone and that is enough. Then I begin trying out my new phone - listening to the ring tones, getting the volume just right, txting a few people, taking some pics of the boys to save to my wallpaper. The finally I make a call......"Can you hear me?", I say to the person on the other end of the line. Their response was "No. You sound like you are underwater." Out of the calls I made in the first couple of days of having my new phone, no one could hear anything I was saying. I could hear them very well, but they could not hear me at all. So, what good is a having a new phone if no one can hear you.

I thought about that broken cell phone and how we communicate with God. When we pray and talk to our heavenly Father, the communication must be 2 ways. We have to listen just as much as we talk. He has lots of things to tell us - promises from His word, clear direction for our lives, peace and comfort to give us when we are hurting, answers to questions that we wrestle with, etc. Sometimes He tells us these things immediately and other times it takes some time.....but if we dont take the time to listen, we wont know. Have you stopped and really listened to your heavenly Father lately? What have you missed Him saying to you?
