Handwritten Treasure.....

My dad was one of my favorite people. He was a hard worker, quite the jokester, full of love and very generous. He died 12 years ago, when I was 21. There is not a day that goes by that I dont miss him terribly. I often wonder ...... what would he think of my boys and what kind of mom does he think I am? What kinds of things would he do with the boys? What little jokes would they have together, what stories would he tell them, what games would they play? All the while, I know he would have been the best grandfather!! Any item that I find that was his is an instant treasure to me - especially things with his handwriting on it. Cards he gave me when I was little, notes written in his Bible, even gas receipts with his signature. Silly maybe, but seeing words that he wrote reminds me even now of his great love for me and what a wonderful dad he was.

Our heavenly Father has given us a treasure as well - one that He wrote out of love for us - His Word. The Bible was written for us and it contains words of love, promises, and is the truth that we need as we go through this journey called life! You can see the fingerprints of Christ all throughout Scripture and see how God's plan from the beginning was to rescue us from our sin, reconcile us back to Him, and all the while bring glory and honor to Himself! What a great, loving, God we serve.

Just as items with my dad's handwriting on it are treasures to me, so is God's word. I love the promises I find in scripture. One of my favorites is "But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40:31.

What is one of your favorite verses?
