Daniel and I are fortunate to be involved in a couples small group at church. We meet each week and just walk through a book of the Bible, verse by verse. We dig in, cross reference, look up meanings, and do all we can to decipher what a verse means and how it applies to our life. We began studying Colossians in April. It is now July 15 and we just finished Colossians 3:12-17. WOW! But, I love doing it this way. We take the time to read for knowledge and application as opposed to reading a wealth of information!
Check out what Colossians 3:12-17 says:
"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."
We talked in our group about how in those verses, it is all a process.....a journey. We dont make a one time decision to be compassionate and then Boom.....we are always compassionate. It is a choice daily of dying to ourselves and letting Christ have complete control of every part of our lives. For it is only by Him and through Him that I can be compassionate, gentle, patient, forgiving, bearing of others, etc. I am so thankful that He is with me in this journey of life and He is molding me to be more and more like Him everyday. But that molding happens as I dig into His word and let the word of Christ dwell in me. I cant apply truths to my life that I dont read. So what about you, are you digging into God's word. If not, why not? You dont have to read a whole book at a time. We dont - we just read 5 verses - 5 powerful, life changing verses. Start today and dig into His word.
